Rihanna's number one singles

Many artists would consider themselves lucky to reach their seventh album, but for Rihanna, it's a feat she managed somewhat effortlessly - and quickly.

What's more, she's continued to reach new heights with her latest set Unapologetic, which is on course to be her first number one record in America.

Meanwhile, the LP's lead single 'Diamonds' has now topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, meaning Rihanna has matched Madonna's US chart-topping record.

Rihanna Confirms New Single

Rihanna Confirms New Single
Tonight, nights after landing her first US #1 album with ‘Unapologetic‘ , the ‘Battleship’ star has finally confirmed the name of the next cut to be pulled from the release.

STAY

To be released on January 7th 2013, the moving number will serve as the follow up to the Sia penned ‘Diamonds’, which has now sold 1,200,586 digital copies since launch.

Well received by fans and critics alike, the cut received its first shot of promo earlier this month when the singer performed it at ‘Saturday Night Live‘. Serving, what we’re sure you’ll agree, one her best performances to date.

No. 1 Girl: Rihanna's Chart-topping Singles

Billboard Queen

Since first topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 2006 with "S.O.S.," Rihanna has made a habit of hitting the number one spot with an unmatched string of addictive pop hits. With her latest single, "Diamonds," hitting the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, the Barbadian star has an incredible 12 number-one hits under her belt after just seven years in the game.

According to Billboard, Rih Rih has now tied Madonna for the fourth most number-ones in the 54-year history of the chart. She now trails just Michael Jackson (13), Mariah Carey (18) and The Beatles (a whopping (20) for the most chart-toppers of all time. And at 24, best believe she isn't finished yet. Here are all 12 of the Billboard Queen's #1's in chronological order. How many more does she have up her sleeve?

Rihanna ties Madonna for No. 1 singles as 'Diamonds' ascends on Hot 100

Rihanna has notched her 12th No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Diamonds." She ties Madonna and the Supremes with that number, as the artists with the fourth most No. 1s on the single sales and airplay chart. Only the Beatles, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson have had more than 12 No. 1s, with 20, 18 and 13 respectively.

Below is a complete list of Rihanna's No. 1 records, courtesy of Billboard.

Ri-Ri's chart ascension -- aided by the drop of her new album "Unapologetic" to retailers -- displaces Maroon 5's "One More Night" after it sat at the top for nine weeks. That song slips to No. 2 as Ke$ha's "Die Young" keeps the No. 3 position warm.

Bruno Mars sees his "Locked Out of Heaven" locked into No. 4, moving up two spots; fun.'s "Some Nights" slips No. 4 to No. 5; and Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)" ascends No. 8 to No. 6.

But wait? Where is Psy? Hasn't "Gangnam Style" sat in the No. 2 post for seven weeks? Poor Psy doesn't appear to have any more muster to make it to No. 1, as "Gangnam" continues its slide No. 5 to No. 7.

The Lumineers appear to be the next unlikely top 10 artist, as "Ho Hey" makes its way into the top tier, No. 13 to No. 8.

Taylor Swift's former chart-topper "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" continues its decline No. 7 to No. 9 and Flo Rida's "I Cry" is static at No. 10.

Here are Rihanna's No. 1 singles, with number of weeks:

2006, "SOS" (three weeks at No. 1)
2007, " Umbrella," featuring Jay-Z (seven)
2008, "Take a Bow" (one)
2008, "Disturbia" (two)
2008, "Live Your Life" (T.I. featuring Rihanna) (six)
2010, "Rude Boy" (five)
2010, "Love the Way You Lie" (Eminem featuring Rihanna) (seven)
2010, "What's My Name?," featuring Drake (one)
2010, "Only Girl (In the World)" (one)
2011, "S&M," featuring Britney Spears (one)
2011, "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris (10)
2012, "Diamonds" (one to date)

Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko: 'Stay' - Single review

Of course it will be Rihanna's uptempo club numbers that will go down as her most classic hits. Following 18 months of ravey synths, provocative lyrics and weighty beats, the Bajan star took it down a notch with previous single 'Diamonds' and proved that she doesn't need all the controversial romp to top the charts. Needless to say, it's a move she continues to pursue with her latest cut 'Stay'.

"Not really sure how to feel about it/ Something in the way you move," she muses with a glowing vocal over a simple, but highly effective, piano riff. The result echoes some of 2012's most successful female balladeers, including Emeli Sandé and Lana Del Rey - the latter coming as no surprise considering the song's co-writer Justin Parker also penned 'Video Games'. Like most of what Rihanna turns her hand to, it never feels like she's following the pack, but simply airing her seemingly complex emotions through music's current trend.
